How much spousal maintenance?

How the calculation works

The side that earns more pays. Earned income counts at nine tenths on both sides, and child support is deducted first. Maintenance is half of the difference, limited by the paying side’s retained amount.

Maintenance during separation (§ 1361 BGB) runs until the divorce is final. Maintenance after divorce requires a statutory ground (§§ 1569 ff. BGB). The calculator does not cover, for example, the benefit of living rent-free, capital income, maintenance for health insurance and retirement provision, or the specific assessment of needs for high incomes.
